PETALING JAYA, April 23 (Bernama) -- The Magistrates Court allowed the first accused in the murder trial of a college lecturer and her father to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia, Tanjung Rambutan.
Mohd Rafik Rahem applied for his client Mohamad Zul Shahril Suhaimi, 20 to be evaluated under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code informing Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abdul Wahid that it was necessary to gauge his mental health at the time of the murder.
Mohamad Zul Shahril was jointly charged with Mohamad Sharafe Matt Noh, 19, Azizi Aizat Ibrahim, 20 and Muhamad Safwan Muhamad, 20 with murdering Zara Eleena Omar Peter and her father Omar Peter Abdullah at their house in Taman Kinrara, Puchong here between 11.30 pm and 2.30 am on March 8 and 9.
Omar Peter was a retiree and the 23-year-old Zara, an English lecturer at the Cybernatics International College of Technology.
The accused face the mandatory death sentence upon conviction under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
