PUTRAJAYA, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- A former inspector in an oil and gas company walked away a free man on Wednesday after the Court of Appeal cleared him of the charges of rape, sodomy and wrongful confinement of a 17-year-old girl six years ago.
A three-member panel chaired by Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Raus Md Shariff allowed Fazrul Shah Ngadiman's appeal to set aside his conviction and jail term and whipping meted out to him by the Johor Baharu Sessions Court on Nov 18, 2010.
Justice Raus held that his conviction was not safe to sustain.
He said the court agreed with the submission of Fazrul Shah's counsel Karpal Singh that the credibility of the girl's statement that she was illegally confined was questionable.
Court of Appeal judges Datuk K.N. Segara and Datuk Azhar Ma'ah were the other two judges on the panel.
